The more his genetic nature is a result of the choices of others, the more he must consider himself as a social product, the result of a mechanism which may make more and more claims upon him. The argument against significant affirmative manipulation of human genetic material (by affirmative I mean the choice of certain characteristics, as opposed to the effort to exclude aclear and precise range of negative characteristics) has so far been considered only from the point of view of the individual who would know himself to be the product of such manipulation.
