Myorin-ni, the warrior widow of Tsurusaki Castle, 1586 Myorin-ni is the posthumous name that appears on the ihai (funerary tablet) of one of the best-authenticated and most remarkable examples of a woman taking on an actual fighting role in a battle. Once again the context is that of a defended castle where a woman was to be found left in charge but, unlike other examples where the husband was absent because of military duties considered to be more important, Myorin-ni was the keeper of the castle in her own right following the death of her husband eight years earlier.
